How to Germinate Wild Bergamot Bee Balm (Monarda fistulosa)
  • Sow Wild Bergamot Bee Balm seeds indoors 8-10 weeks before the last expected frost date or directly outdoors in early spring.
  • Sprinkle seeds on the soil surface and press them down gently. Do not cover the seeds, as they need light to germinate.
  • Maintain a soil temperature of 60-70°F (16-21°C) for optimal germination, which typically takes 10-30 days.
  • Keep the soil consistently moist during the germination period but avoid waterlogging.
  • Once seedlings have several sets of true leaves, transplant them outdoors, spacing them 18-24 inches apart in a sunny location.

  • Wild Bergamot Bee Balm prefers full sun to partial shade and thrives in well-draining, moderately fertile soil.
  • Water regularly to keep the soil moist, especially during dry periods, but do not overwater, as Bee Balm can tolerate some drought.
  • Apply mulch around the base of the plants to retain moisture, regulate soil temperature, and control weeds.
