How to Germinate Trumpet Vine Red

How to Germinate Trumpet Vine Red (Campsis radicans)
  • Sow Trumpet Vine Red seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before the last expected frost date or directly outdoors in early spring.
  • If starting indoors, scarify the seeds by rubbing them gently with sandpaper to break the seed coat, then soak them in water for 24 hours.
  • Plant seeds 1/4 inch deep in a well-draining seed-starting mix. Use seed trays or small pots for indoor germination.
  • Maintain a soil temperature of 70-85°F (21-29°C) for optimal germination, which can take 14-21 days.
  • Keep the soil consistently moist during the germination period, but avoid waterlogging to prevent rot.
  • Once seedlings have developed several sets of true leaves, transplant them outdoors in a sunny location, spacing them at least 3-4 feet apart.
