How to Germinate Spinach Bloomsdale (Spinacia oleracea)
  • Sow Spinach Bloomsdale seeds directly outdoors as soon as the soil can be worked in early spring or in late summer for a fall harvest.
  • Plant seeds 1/2 inch deep in well-draining soil, spacing them 2-4 inches apart in rows that are 12-18 inches apart.
  • Maintain a soil temperature of 45-75°F (7-24°C) for optimal germination, which typically takes 7-14 days.
  • Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged during the germination period.
  • Thin seedlings to 4-6 inches apart once they are a few inches tall to allow room for full leaf growth.

  • Spinach Bloomsdale prefers full sun but can tolerate partial shade, especially in warmer climates.
  • Water regularly to keep the soil evenly moist, especially during dry periods, as spinach has shallow roots.
  • Apply mulch around the base of the plants to retain moisture, regulate soil temperature, and suppress weeds.
