How to Germinate Snapdragon Maximum Mix

How to Germinate Snapdragon Maximum Mix (Antirrhinum majus)
  • Sow Snapdragon seeds indoors 8-10 weeks before the last expected frost date for best results.
  • Sprinkle seeds on the surface of a well-draining seed-starting mix and press them down gently. Do not cover the seeds, as they require light to germinate.
  • Maintain a soil temperature of 65-75°F (18-24°C) for optimal germination, which typically takes 10-21 days.
  • Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged during the germination period.
  • Once seedlings have developed several sets of true leaves, transplant them outdoors after all danger of frost has passed, spacing them 6-12 inches apart.

Additional Tips
  • Snapdragons thrive in full sun to partial shade and prefer well-draining, moderately fertile soil.
  • Water regularly to keep the soil evenly moist, especially during hot weather, to support healthy blooming.
  • Apply mulch around the base of the plants to retain moisture, control weeds, and keep the roots cool.
  • Deadhead spent flowers to encourage continuous blooming throughout the growing season.
  • Pinch back the tops of young plants to promote bushier growth and more flower spikes.
