How to Germinate Pumpkin Spooky (Cucurbita pepo)
  • Sow Spooky pumpkin seeds directly outdoors in late spring when the soil has warmed to at least 70°F (21°C).
  • If starting indoors, plant seeds 2-4 weeks before the last expected frost date in individual pots.
  • Plant seeds 1 inch deep in well-draining soil, spacing them 3-4 feet apart in rows that are 6-8 feet apart.
  • Maintain a soil temperature of 70-90°F (21-32°C) for optimal germination, which typically takes 7-10 days.
  • Keep the soil consistently moist but avoid waterlogging during the germination period.
  • Once seedlings have 2-3 true leaves, thin them to the healthiest plants to allow ample space for growth.

  • Pumpkin Spooky prefers full sun and rich, well-draining soil. Amend the soil with compost or organic matter before planting for best results.
  • Water regularly, ensuring the soil remains evenly moist, particularly during flowering and fruit development. Avoid watering the foliage to reduce disease risk.
