How to Germinate Poppy California Poppy (Eschscholzia californica)
  • Sow California Poppy seeds directly outdoors in early spring or late fall for natural stratification. They do not transplant well.
  • Choose a location with full sun and well-draining soil, preferably sandy or rocky.
  • Scatter seeds on the soil surface and press them down lightly. Do not cover them with soil, as they need light to germinate.
  • Water gently to settle the seeds. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged during the germination period.
  • Germination typically takes 10-30 days, depending on temperature and moisture conditions.
