How to Germinate Cranberry Bean (Phaseolus vulgaris)
  • Sow Cranberry Bean seeds directly outdoors after the last frost date when soil temperatures reach at least 60°F (16°C).
  • Choose a sunny location with well-draining soil enriched with organic matter.
  • Plant seeds 1 to 1.5 inches deep and 3-4 inches apart, with rows spaced 18-24 inches apart.
  • Water thoroughly after planting, and keep the soil evenly moist (not soggy) during germination.
  • Germination typically occurs within 7-14 days under optimal conditions.
  • Thin seedlings to about 6 inches apart once they have developed their first true leaves.

  • Cranberry Beans prefer full sun and benefit from consistent watering during flowering and pod development.
